Professors Allouch, Jones, and Awaad will be teaching this upcoming Spring’s Course on the “Power of Prejudice: Islam and Cross-Cultural Competency.”

“The intent is to engage students in a critical, reflective analysis of how prejudiced understandings of “race”, “gender” and “religion” impact the functioning of groups and societies. In an intellectually rigorous, theoretical framework we will review some of the issues that tend to balkanize groups in the United States. From #BlackLivesMatter to Islamophobia 101, students will be provided with the tools to think logically, argue persuasively and act ethically when encountering these “hot button” issues. Other course topics include; “Religious/Racial Intolerance Before Islamophobia”, “American Muslim Intragroup Prejudice”, and “Eugenics 101”. Students will also have the opportunity to get feedback from the instructors and peers regarding real life scenarios “back home”.”
